Overseas and Charitable Connections
St Andrews has links with a number of fellow congregations around the world. Information about those parishes will appear here. Additionally during the year 2008, the congregation of St Andrew's supported the following charitable causes.
Additional Curates Society
The Additional Curates Society was founded in 1837 by a Christian layman, Joshua Watson. It's purpose is to ensure that the Christian Faith is proclaimed in poor and populous parishes. It does this by funding assistant priests, and encouraging vocations to the priesthood.
Barnabas Fund
The main ministry of Barnabas Fund is to send financial support to projects which help Christians where they suffer discrimination, oppression and persecution as a consequence of their faith. The projects aim to strengthen Christian individuals, churches and their communities by providing material and spiritual support in response to needs identified by local Christian leaders.
Bible Society
The Bible Society are passionate about ending Bible poverty – and working for a day when the Bible’s God-given revelation, inspiration and wisdom is shaping the lives and communities of people everywhere.
Children in Distress
Since 1990 the volunteers and staff of Children in Distress have been bringing love and care to the suffering, abandoned and forgotten children of Eastern Europe.
Church Army
We're about sharing faith through words and action to transform lives by making Jesus famous. Our focus is on the 7 out of 10 people who have little or no meaningful contact with church.
Church missionary Society (CMS)
CMS is committed to evangelistic mission, working to see our world transformed by the love of Jesus.
Corrymeela Community
Founded in 1965, Corrymeela’s objective has always been and continues to be promoting reconciliation and peace-building through the healing of social, religious and political divisions in Northern Ireland. Corrymeela’s history is built upon committed work with individuals and communities which have suffered through the violence and polarisation of the Northern Irish conflict. Our vision of Christian community and reconciliation has been expressed through a commitment of promoting interaction between and building positive relationships among all kinds and conditions of people.
Lesotho Diocesan Association
The Lesotho Diocesan Association has been in existence for about 50 years.
It was founded by the first Anglican Bishop of Lesotho, The Rt. Revd. John Maund, who became bishop in 1950.
It's purpose is to support the work of the Anglican church,and over the years it has worked to raise money for schools, parishes, clergy housing and above all for clergy stipends, since the people struggle to find money for their own needs and there is no other way of paying the priests.
Melanesian Mission
The Melanesian Mission is an Anglican mission agency that provides support to the Church of Melanesia through prayer, people and financial grants.
Mission to Seafarers
Loneliness, danger, separation from loved ones. These are just some of the problems seafarers face. The Mission to Seafarers, a charity and part of the Anglican Church, is there worldwide offering them help and support.
Society for the Propagation of Christian Knowledge (SPCK)
SPCK was founded in 1698 and works to help people to understand and to grow in the Christian faith. We work to support and develop the knowledge of Christians and to interest and inform others.
USPG (United Society for the Propagation of the Gospel)
USPG: Anglicans in World Mission works in direct partnership with Anglican Churches in over 50 countries, helping to support vital church work, including healthcare, education, leadership training and action for social justice
Welcare Lewisham
Welcare is a Christian Charity, which works with children and families in need, irrespective of faith, culture, abilities or life choices, to achieve a better quality of life for children and families. It seeks to provide services in response to local needs which encourage self-help and build communities.
The Children's Society
The Children's Society is a leading national charity that makes childhood better for all children in the UK. Our network of community-based projects provide targeted, immediate and lasting help for children who feel excluded, isolated or abandoned; children who live in a vicious circle of fear and harm, and who are faced with a lifetime of danger and disadvantage in their daily lives.
St Christopher's Hospice
Dame Cicely Saunders founded St Christopher’s as the first hospice to link expert pain and symptom control, compassionate care, education and clinical research. St Christopher’s has been a pioneer in the field of palliative medicine, which is now established worldwide. St Christopher’s serves a population of 1.5 million across south east London, Bromley and Croydon and currently cares for over 2,000 dying individuals every year. St Christopher’s cares for individual patients with life limiting illnesses and supports their families and friends.
WorldVision.
World Vision is a Christian relief, development and advocacy organisation dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice. The congregation of St Andrew's sponsors scholarships for orphans in Ghana.
